Chapters 1-3

Auden, a girl who lives with her divorced mother, is very focused on school and academics. Auden has missed out on the high school experiences, and is not very social. Auden decides to spend the summer with her father and stepmother, who have just had a baby. Auden arrives at her father’s house for the summer, and notices how exhausted Heidi is from taking care of the baby who never stops crying. She also notices her father doesn't help, so she steps in to help with the baby.

Chapters 4-6

Auden is beginning to see a whole other side of her. She generously helps her step mother with the baby, and with Heidi’s job. It turns out that Auden likes the job because it gave her a chance to get out of the house. She finds herself trying to stay out of the house as late as possible to escape the drama of her parents, and the baby.


Chapter 7-9

Auden thought that she would never like Heidi, but Auden shows her respect by standing up for her when Auden mother is talking harshly about her. Auden has been adapting to her new location, and she is beginning to make friends, and going to parties. She even meets a guy named Eli who she finds to be very interesting. They begin to hang out and learn a lot about each other. He decides to help her on her “quest” of becoming more like a teenager. In this process Auden finds herself becoming attracted to Eli.

Chapter 10-12


As the summer days go by Auden is fulfilling more, and more adventures off her quest. Her and Eli are becoming even closer by taking their relationship to the next level. Auden learns that she can trust herself to convey her feelings to Eli. Unfortunately Heidi and Auden’s father, Robert, are taking the wrong turns. They are constantly arguing and not getting along. They decide to taker a break, and Robert is forced to stay at a hotel for a while.

Chapter 13-15

After the heartfelt night between Eli and Auden, he decides to change his behavior, and start a game of kickball. During this game Auden meets an old friend, who brings her back to reality. Auden decides she wants to be alone for a while, not answering any calls or even talking to Eli. After she realizes she misses Eli and her family, she asked Maggie to teach her to ride a bike, hoping it will impress Eli. Eventually Auden talks it out with her mother and decides to help out with the big party that Heidi was hosting.

Chapter 16-19

After trying to ride the bike Auden relalizes Eli was right, she could never really ride one. However, she keeps trying. Unknowingly Auden's mother shows up at her fathers house and they talk all of their problems out. After telling her father he needs to make things right again with heidi, Auden finally decides to go to the prom. Even after Jason bailed and Eli turned her down. Suprisingly she runs into Eli on her way there and it turns out he only turned her down because of his bike competition. Auden and Maggie end up going to Deufrise college together and Eli attends The U. The ending setting takes place at Ray's while Auden and Eli are having coffee at night, their favorite time together.
